HTML Entity Encoder / Decoder

Entity rules and privacy

Uses the .NET HTML4 named entity table (case-sensitive), decimal and hexadecimal numeric entities with semicolons. This is not the full HTML5 browser parser: unsupported names, missing semicolons and invalid numeric references remain literal. Non-ASCII encoding follows .NET: Latin-1 characters use decimal entities, other Unicode text is preserved, and supplementary characters use numeric entities. Quotes become " and '.

Encoding always escapes ampersands: < becomes <. Decoding < produces <, not a tag. Output is a read-only text field, not a preview or HTML sanitizer. Do not treat decoded text as safe HTML elsewhere.

Input is limited to 4000 UTF-16 characters; the browser clips pasted or typed input at 4002 UTF-16 characters before sending it over the Blazor connection. This two-character sentinel remains over the conversion limit even when clipping avoids splitting a surrogate pair. A clipped prefix cannot be converted. Shorten the text explicitly to 4000 or fewer characters. Managed edits exceeding 4001 are refused with the input cleared and stale output removed; conversion stays blocked until a valid edit or Clear. No external conversion API or automatic payload storage is used. With Interactive Auto, server-interactive input traverses the Blazor connection; WebAssembly runs on your device. Web only; extension and Android are not qualified.

HTML Entity Encoder / Decoder guide

Encode or decode HTML entities as literal text.

Input and limitations

Unicode text or HTML entities, up to 4000 UTF-16 characters.

Check the selected options before using the result. Formatting and conversion do not establish that data is safe or suitable for your application.

How to use HTML Entity Encoder / Decoder

  1. Choose Encode or Decode, paste text, then choose Convert.
  2. Copy the literal output; decoded text is never rendered as HTML.
  3. Encoding encodes existing ampersands again; decoding resolves only one layer.
  4. Clear removes input, output and errors; direction stays selected.

Example

Encode <b> & to &lt;b&gt; &amp;. Decode &copy; &#x1F600; to © 😀. Output is literal text, never an HTML preview.

Privacy on the website

The website uses Blazor Auto: interactive processing can run on the server or in your browser, depending on the current session. Do not assume pasted input stays on your device. Use non-sensitive sample data, and never place passwords, tokens or personal data in page URLs.

Search indexing covers public tool descriptions, not your input or generated output. See the privacy policy for website analytics and other data handling.

Install and offline help

Use your browser's install action, if available. Installation is optional; you can keep using this website normally.

Tools need an internet connection. Offline support provides a connection information page, not all-tools offline use.

Reset keeps favorites and preferences. It does not restore unsaved tool content.
